How to play Jarvan IV
Read the full guide
Walk first, flag second: on many ganks Jarvan should use body position, W, and red buff to make the target show their escape line, then spend EQ as the receipt, with R first into EQ as a real punish when they still have a reactive dash or flash
Cataclysm is a door, not just a cage: use R to close helpers out of the half-fight your team is already winning or to pin the diver who reached your backline first, and break the wall if it starts trapping your own team instead
Spend Martial Cadence on new bodies: Jarvan’s cleaner fights are often the ones where he stamps one target, switches to another, and lets his team finish the arranged play, which fits the recent data showing he wins more cleanly from ally-layered setup than from forcing random 1v1 river tests
Cancel Cataclysm as soon as the wall stops helping the half-fight you wanted. Keep it up if it is pinning a diver on your carry, cutting peel off the target your team is already hitting, or forcing the enemy backline to take the long path. Break it early if your own damage dealers need to step through, if the trapped target has already spent the cooldown you wanted, or if the carry inside can freely kite while your team is locked outside. A good rule in game is simple: if the wall is creating extra hits for your team, keep it; if it is costing your team hits, drop it immediately.
Jarvan's first basic attack on an enemy deals bonus physical damage based on their current Health. This effect cannot occur again on the same enemy for a few seconds.
Jarvan IV extends his lance, dealing physical damage and lowering the Armor of enemies in its path. Additionally, this will pull Jarvan to his Demacian Standard, knocking up enemies in his path.
Jarvan IV calls upon the ancient kings of Demacia to shield him from harm and slow surrounding enemies.
Jarvan IV carries the pride of Demacia, passively granting him bonus Attack Speed. Activating Demacian Standard allows Jarvan IV to place a Demacian flag that deals magic damage on impact and grants Attack Speed to nearby allied champions.
Jarvan IV heroically leaps into battle at a target with such force that he terraforms the surrounding area to create an arena around them. Nearby enemies are damaged at the moment of impact.
