How to play Xerath
Read the full guide
Play lane around hide the cast: take side brush, use W to light brush and force a feet-read, and cancel charged Q if the dodge is already won instead of donating mana and wave control to a bad release.
Xerath support is supposed to get paid when bot lane starts walking in curves around your threat, so support-quest tempo is a real check on whether you are piloting the pick correctly; recent data shows his on-time quest games beat late-quest games by about ten win-rate points.
After 6, treat R as the first spell of the fight: use the first shot to read the panic sidestep, then finish the carry or enchanter who is keeping the enemy formation comfortable rather than dumping the barrage into the tank line.
Ult as soon as you have earned a calm screen, not only when someone is already one hit from death. The clean windows are after bot has to respect your lane pressure, when a river fight starts to form, or when a side skirmish has committed to one direction and people cannot freely juke every shot. Use the first cast to test the panic dodge, then place the next ones on the repeated path. Aim at the carry or enchanter making the fight easy for them, not the tank soaking space in front. If divers still have a live angle on you, keep a safer position before channeling.
Xerath's basic attacks periodically restore Mana. Whenever Xerath kills a unit, this cooldown is reduced.
Fires a long-range beam of energy, dealing magic damage to all targets hit.
Calls down a barrage of arcane energy, slowing and dealing magic damage to all enemies in an area. Targets in the middle receive additional damage and a stronger slow.
Deals magic damage to an enemy and stuns them.
Xerath immobilizes himself and gains numerous long-range barrages.
